Questaris Cosmology
A word on the cosmology of Questaris
The cosmology of Questaris is fairly simple and strait forward. Four elemental planes, air, earth, fire, and water. Five alignment planes, chaos, evil (infernal), good (celestial), lawful, and neutral. Three transitive planes exist on top of the prime material plane,
the astral, ethreal, and shadow. Together they make up the central planes. And the positive, and negative, energy planes join them all, while surrounding the prime material plane. In the midst of all this are the Realms of the gods themselves, which are connected to many of the major planes.
There are twenty six realms listed here, and these are not by any means all the realms that may exist.

Central Planes
Contained within the Central Planes are the Prime Material Plane, The Astral Plane, The Ethereal Plane, and The Plane of Shadow. The Astral, Ethereal, an Shadow Planes overlap the Prime Material plane but exist unseen by mortal eyes. What affects the Prime Material Plane effects the other three, in simular but slightly different ways.
For example, if a house is built on the Prime Material Plane it also exists on the other three planes though it may look different. In the astral plane it may appear as a small keep built upon a floating island. In the Etheral plane it might appear to be made of fogged glass. Or in the plane of Shadow it might appear as if it had
burned down many years prior. Below are details for the appearence of each of the four central planes.
Those that walk on to these bridges find that they do not actually have to walk accross them. When a being steps on a bridge they are instantly trasported to the oposite side of the bridge. There are islands that are not attached by bridges within the Astral plane that seem to also be a part of the Prime World. Most Scholars
believe that these islands are other lands that have yet to be discovered in the Prime World. And many have sought to confirm this, but as of yet none has succeeded. In the distance, far from the islands that copy the prime world, are what appear to be other island gatherings. It is the opinion of Astral sholars that these are
other worlds that lay within the Prime Material Plane. But this is a theory that nne have dared as of yet to prove.
Magic is effected in stranges ways in the Astral planes. They seem easier to cast, and have greater range then normal. The only downside is that spells can not be recovered normally, as sleep is not possible on the plane.
Scattered around the plane are what appear to be floating gems of light. These gems are the size of a walnut. These can float about 4 feet above the ground, and some can be seen floating out in the vastness of the planiar sky. It has been discovered that at these places spent magic can be recovered, but only at certian times.
As the day wears on in the prime world the light cast from these gems change.
Durning the night hours the gems glow no more then a candle. But as the day progresses in the prime world the light from these gems increases. It is at the height of illumination that spell casters, both divine and arcane, can regain spent spells. But only if they are within one hundred feet of the gem.
The plane is not uninhabited as every person that lives in the prime world has a double. These beings appear as idealised versions of their prime world counterparts. The only major difference is that these individuals are prone to extreme emotional states, as they are beings of pure emotion. Also the Gith pirates and their ships cruise the skys in search of prey. While Devas roam the islands to insure the safty of those that dwell in, or travel through, the plane.
While in the Ethereal plane travelers may travel up and down as easily as any other direction. Ethereal travelers do not walk, they float much like the ghosts and other spirits that fill the plane. This is due to the fact that gravity does not truely exist in the Ethereal plane.
While spells may still be cast with in the Ethereal plane, they cannot effect the prime world. Even spells that normally effect Ethereal, and Material, opponents when cast in the prime world only effect objects and creatures in the Ethereal plane. For example if Magic Missle is cast in the prime world it can effect both
beings in the Prime and Ethereal planes. But if cast in the Ethereal plane the spell only effects beings in the Ethereal plane.
The Plane is inhabited by the many ghosts and specteres that haunt the world of Questaris. Also all prime world inhabitants have counterparts that dwell on the plane. They have a ghostly appearance to them. They act just as their prime world counterparts would, as they are ruled by the spiritual aspects of their prime world selves.
The other major inhabitants of the Ethereal plane are members of the Circle of Nine. It is unclear how they have managed to achieve their seemingly permanent presence on the plane. Some unlucky travlers have encountered Circle members in nearly every part of the plane and managed to escape to tell the tale. it
is believed that Vorathrax dwells within this plane, or a plane that is somehow connected to it.
Each person on the prime world has a companion in the shadow plane. These entities walk around and act like their prime world companions, but they act with little emotion or will. These in habitants are not truely alive though, as they are more shadows of those they portray. They tend to act on darker impulses then their prime
world counterparts. There are far worse inhabitants of the Shadow plane though. Living shadows and shades ever in search for living victims to feed on.
Magic cast in the plane of Shadow works as normal unless the spell produces a light, fire, or darkness effect. Spells that cause a light effect have their range reduced by half, their effects cut by 25%, and may fizzle. Roll a spellcraft check to maintain such spells (DC20 = spell level). Fire based spells have their effect reduced by 25%.
Roll a spellcraft check to maintain such spells (DC20 = spell level). Darkness based spells are increased due to the nature of the plane itself.
Shadow conjureation and shadow evocation do have their effects increased to 30% rahter then their normal 20%. Greater shadow conjuration and greater shadow evocation have their effects increased to 70% rather then their normal 60%. And shades is increased to 90% rather then it's normal 80%.
Alignment Planes
The Alignment planes are a series of planes governed by the 5 alignment types. Good, evil, law, chaos, and neutrality. Each has the appearence of a standard world, but this is deceptive as all are infinite in size. These planes are independant of the prime world, and each has an appearance all their own. While each of these planes are
independant of eachother, they are all connected to eachother. The realms of the gods are seperate to each of these planes but are also connected to them.
Unlike other planes, the Elemental Planes may be directly reached from the prime world. They may also be reached from any of the other planes, and realms, as well. There are many protals within the Elemental Planes that allow passage too and from them. Each plane is centered around one of four elements. Air, Earth, Fire, and Water, and these are the
birth places of elementals themselves. Though travel to the Elemental Planes my be easy for adventures to do, it is not to be taken lightly.
Energy Planes
The Energy Planes join and seperate the many planes of the universe. It is through the Energy Planes that one can travel to all of the other planes. It is also the site of the eternal battles between the Gods of Light and the Void Lords. There is no stable boundry between the
two planes, as positive and negative energies clash constantly. In some places the clash between these energies can be seen as enormous storms that darken the skys for hundreds of miles. In others the clash between them may be displayed by great mountin chains that are constantly
erupting, and covered in molten lava. Or sometimes there might be a great chasm that seperaes teh two. No matter the appearance of the border it is allways in constant change. Some times the positive energies of the cosmos may be dominant and the positive energy plane may grow larger,
swollowing up portions of the negative. Or sometimes the cosmos may favor the negative. Along the border between the two are countless fortress'es constructed by the armies of both the Gods of Light and The Void Lords. Battles of epic size commonly break out between the two sides, and
many of these battles may last for years.
